Northern Harmony, the remarkable world music singing ensemble led by Larry Gordon, presents another new show video available March 9 - 14, 2021.

Northern Harmony is the highest level of performing group under the umbrella of the world music organization Village Harmony. During this past fall and winter, Gordon has been gathering groups of the most experienced Village Harmony and Northern Harmony singers to present a series of online concerts. All the singers are COVID tested, and have been quarantining in Marshfield, preparing this concert program so that they can perform together safely under the state guidelines.

Through 25 years of international touring the group has won wide recognition for its exciting command of very diverse singing styles and timbres.  The concert program presents a selection of music from a dazzling variety of vocal styles and genres:

  • South African songs and dances
  • Contemporary shape-note songs
  • Traditional songs from Georgia, Corsica, Bulgaria, Albania and Greece
  • French baroque Nisi Dominus by Charpentier

The current group includes two prominent Village harmony leaders: Lysander Jaffe will lead the songs from Georgia, Albania and Greece. He is an expert in the highly ornamented styles of those traditions. Megan Henderson will conduct the Charpentier motet and accompany on keyboard.

The songs from the Balkans will be accompanied by a band of fiddles, accordion and drum.
